Cocktail Friday | 19th Century Boothby Cocktail

It's my birthday weekend! And as a California girl, born in the San Francisco Bay Area, I chose a drink native to my city - the Boothby Cocktail.

William Boothby, of San Francisco, California, was a significant figure in the growth of cocktail.

The Boothby was developed by the 19th century San Franscico bartender, William Thomas Boothby, and all these years later, it's still an amazing cocktail!

Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz bourbon
1 1/2 oz sweet vermouth
2 dashes angostura bitters
1-2 oz champagne or sparkling wine
orange peel and cranberry for garnish

Directions:
In an ice-filled shaker, add bourbon, sweet vermouth, and bitters. Shake and pour into glass. Fill with champagne. Add orange peel and cranberry garnish.

My birthday happens to fall on the 88th Academy Awards this year, and this cocktail is perfect not only for a San Fransisco baby such as myself, but also for an Oscar night party. Cheers!
