Merry Christmas To You All!

Taken in Portsmouth, New Hampshire

And in despair I bowed my head;
"There is no peace on earth," I said;

"For hate is strong,

And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!"

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep: "God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;

The Wrong shall fail,

The Right prevail,
With peace on earth, good will to men!

- Excerpt from "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day," words by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

  4. Do you know the story behind the poem? It was such a tragic time for Longfellow, and with all that he was going through, he still said that there was peace on earth. It's my favorite too.

    Eileen - Yes, I know his story well. Have read a lot about him. His home is not far from where I live. I felt such a spirit about his home. Saw where his wife was burned, where she died, and could sense his deep love for her. I love Longfellow so much!
